Martin Ellacott Tennis Wales Disability Programme award for 2015. North Powys Tennis Academy launched successfully on 6th March.

Newtown Tennis is a well-established club with a thriving junior section and regular playing sessions for adults, mixed ages and youngsters. Members and non-members are welcome to join the coaching programme and the courts are used regularly by schools and community groups; we have the only 4 court facility in North Powys. We are also an official Mini Tennis provider and are the Disability Tennis Centre for Mid Wales.

Newtown Tennis is always keen to welcome new players of all standards.

We run 3 men’s, 1 ladies and 2 mixed teams in the Montgomeryshire Tennis League and several junior teams in the Aegon Team Tennis North Wales League, as well as the 4 Monty Tour events. 2016 will also launch the North Powys Tennis Academy (NPTA), a specific programme identifying and developing players with potential. We have a small tennis pavilion with toilet and changing area, a kitchen and meeting room, where we hold occasional social gatherings.

Chairman's Message for 2016

Welcome to one and all – the daffodils are blooming, clean up day Sunday 20th March and we shall be off!!!

The club had a very successful 2015 with 4 of the 6 teams promoted – this year will indeed be a challenge. The club and its volunteers have been mentioned at both Montgomeryshire and Wales awards, but the highlight was our own Martin Ellacott winning the award for the Welsh Disability Programme for 2015 in Cardiff, many congratulations.

Most recently saw the start of a sparkling venture to encourage those youngsters with potential (NPTA) and so we have high hopes for 2016.
